Hardenability

 

The steel quench and temper through hardening process is used to form a microstructure that consists of martensite.  The depth to which an all martensite microstructure can be formed in a piece of steel depends on the steel’s hardenability.

This lesson discusses the effects of hardenability on quenched steel microstructure,  how steel composition influences hardenability, Jominy End Quench test, and hardenability curves.
