Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)

Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)

Custom component no-quotes and high quotes, supplier missed shipments, difficulty sourcing metal stock, ...

These are all symptoms of component and assembly designs that don't include Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) considerations.

The focus of DFMA is to prioritize ease of component fabrication and simplified assembly of components. The trick is to do them while also meeting component and assembly performance and reliability requirements.

There are several DFMA principles. This webinar will cover three:

  • Materials compatibility with fabrication and joining processes
  • Design component features that are compatible with fabrication and joining processes
  • Consult with manufacturing experts

Applying these principles is critical if you want to reduce time-to-market, reduce total production costs, and meet shipment targets.

This is a video recording of a webinar presentation. The video is about 30 minutes. You will receive a course slide document and have 6 weeks access to the webinar recording.

Who will like this video

Product designers who want a solid understanding of design for manufacturing and assembly principles so they can

  • Design lower cost components and assemblies
  • Have fewer supplier and manufacturing problems
  • Launch products faster
  • "Principles of Metallurgy covered the foundations of metallurgy and effects of manufacturing processes needed to obtain desired mechanical properties. This information has been valuable during my work in both design and manufacturing. I highly recommend it for someone that could benefit from knowledge of the fundamentals of metallurgy."

    Mechanical Design Engineer
    Oil & Gas Industry
  • The Principles of Metallurgy course was a great refresher and supplement to the Properties of Materials course I took in college. The content focuses on information relative to industry, which will help greatly in my day-to-day job functions.
    Alex Nocera
    Ensign-Bickford Aerospace and Defense
  • Well worth the time to do Metallurgy of Steel Heat Treating. It has given me more confidence in my job and given me a better understanding of some of the heat treatments used in the business
    Mark Winter
    Test House, Abbey Forged Products
  • I learned a bunch from this course. I needed an understanding of the heat treating and metals for our heat treating process in house. I now have a much better understanding of what is accomplished in the process along with understanding what could be a problem in our process.
