Metallurgy Training

Metallurgy training for non-metallurgists

Metallurgy training geared to engineers, quality and manufacturing teams, and purchasing professionals. Learn metallurgy concepts that will help you with decisions and problems that involve metals.

  • Concepts taught apply to product design, manufacturing process development, supplier evaluation, and solving quality problems.
  • For people who work with metals but don't need to become full-time metallurgists.
  • Training on steel, aluminum, corrosion, testing, failure analysis, and more.

Let's discuss your learning objectives. Complete this short form. We'll email back.

Our metallurgy training covers a variety of topics in these formats:

We can help you design training that meets your training objectives. Let's meet to discuss the metals you use, what you want your team to be able to do when the training in finished, and course and format options to achieve your goals.

Metallurgy training options

Our goal is to help people understand metallurgy so they are better able to make decisions and solve problems related to metals. Decisions include component design, supplier selection, manufacturing process development, and evaluation. Problems include supplier and product quality issues and product and equipment failures.

To meet our goal we offer metallurgy training in several formats to meet different learning needs. The formats include:

We also offer live, virtual question and answer sessions to people who've taken the on-demand courses.

On-demand courses

The on-demand courses are interactive and self-paced, developed using eLearning software. They consist of narrated slides and animations. Also, knowledge checks are used to give learners opportunities to apply the concepts taught, which reinforces the learning. A pdf of course slides is available for future reference.

See this example of eLearning course content.

Webinars

Webinars on a focused metallurgy topic are offered about once a month. They consist of a 30-minute presentation at 15 minutes for questions. Many of the webinars are free. Here's a list of past webinars. Sign-up for our email list to be notified of upcoming webinars.

Video recordings of webinars

Videos are 30 minutes to 2 hours long and cover a wide range of topics. Earn training credit and a certificate for video training that is one hour or longer.

On-site metallurgy training

We offer customized on-site training to companies who want to train a group of engineers and technicians. The first step is to meet to discuss the metals and alloys you use, their applications, your training goals, and rough cost. Complete this form to get started.

Articles

There are many articles on our site. All are free. They explain about different aspects of metallurgy and application of metallurgy principles to product design, reliability, supplier evaluation, failure analysis, and manufacturing.

Custom training

We develop custom training for clients with a group of people. This can be any combination of on-demand courses, live virtual training sessions, and on-site training. The format and content depend on the topics covered, your training goals, and your budget. The first step is to meet to discuss the metals and alloys you use, their applications, your training goals, and rough cost. Complete this form to get started.

Leveraging metallurgical engineering

Product design and manufacturing is complicated. So, why not take advantage of every tool available to make things easier? Even though millions of components are made of metal, metallurgical engineering is under-leveraged at many companies. The result… lost opportunities to decrease product development time, design lower-cost components, solve reliability and quality problems faster, and innovate more.

Learn about the science of metals (metallurgy) and apply it to make engineering decisions and solve problems related to the metals used in a product.

Training certificate

Earn continuing education training certificates in metallurgy. Our on-demand metallurgy courses provide continuing education credit and a certificate upon completion.

We have provided training to hundreds of companies and are recognized by some of the largest engineering associations as a leader in metallurgy training.
